TECOSIM lecture at Minds Mastering Machines

Dr André Backes, Technical Manager at TECOSIM, is giving a lecture entitled ‘Better understanding of simulation models in vehicle development through machine learning’ at Minds Mastering Machines. This AI conference is aimed at specialists who develop applications using machine learning and all aspects of AI. Conference organisers are the online IT channel heise Developer, the magazine for professional information technology iX and publisher dpunkt.verlag.

During his presentation, Dr André Backes also discusses the fundamental characteristics of digital automotive development. Computer-aided engineering (CAE) methods have been used in this segment for decades to reduce the number of prototypes constructed. The specialists use virtual simulations to evaluate different disciplines, including those related to safety, comfort and lifespans.

The simulation models used in automotive development are highly complex. The correlation between input and output data can often only be analysed using extensive individual simulations and must be evaluated by experienced experts. Machine learning provides global understanding of the simulation models in this respect, making it a decisive step towards an automated development process.

Dr André Backes will be looking at the use of machine learning in this context in his lecture, explaining the challenges for CAE and the use of machine learning methods based on it. Neural networks largely play a minor role in this field as the focus is more on machine learning methods for comparatively small datasets.

“The event also holds a special appeal to me as a chance to meet AI experts outside the world of mobility and potentially create synergies with other sectors and applications,” declares Backes.

Minds Mastering Machines takes place at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Karlsruhe, Germany. Dr André Backes’s lecture starts at 10.30 a.m.
