Collaborative culture as a driver of success – an interview with Dermott Carr, Managing Director of TECOSIM in the USA

This spring, TECOSIM defined five new corporate values, one of which is ‘Collaboration’. Dermott Carr explains in an interview how this value will shape the corporate culture. TECOSIM is committed to global networking and close customer relations as a means of promoting innovative solutions and sustainable growth. Discover how collaboration enhances innovative thinking and customer satisfaction for TECOSIM.

Dermott, what does ‘Collaboration’ as a corporate value actually mean in concrete terms?
I would highlight two aspects. Firstly, as a global company we offer customers working with a TECOSIM engineer or one of our locations access to a network of over 650 brilliant minds. Our close collaboration promotes a mindset that enables sustainable growth. Secondly, collaboration with our customers is crucial. We aim to become an integral part of their projects, to introduce new perspectives, and to understand their goals. This shared sense of responsibility delivers excellence – today and in the future.

How does Collaboration influence innovative thinking at TECOSIM?
It’s essential to innovation. We promote it by embedding collaboration and innovation in our values and processes. One example is seen in our multi-site Competence Circles on topics such as ‘Automation and AI’, ‘Electronic simulation’ and ‘Alternative drives’. Our approach encourages employees to challenge the status quo, and find new ways of working. A collaborative culture enables us to take risks together. Often, asking the ‘wrong’ question leads to groundbreaking ideas – and we always allow such questions to be asked.

How does that approach influence the development of new products and services?
In addition to the innovations that arise through collaboration, we regularly hold internal presentations on new promising projects. This form of interchange generates inspiring dialog and ideas that drive existing and future developments.

What role does Collaboration play in terms of sustainability and corporate social responsibility?
Decisions in organizations are often made without fully understanding their impact on sustainability. A collaborative mindset brings together different perspectives, and promotes openness, allowing us to better understand the implications of our decisions. By involving many, we contribute to a better life for all.

How does Collaboration enhance customer satisfaction?
We’re at our best when we work closely with our customers, and become part of their team. Thanks to our understanding of the technical requirements and view of the big picture, we can focus on the essentials. That results in consistent quality, and creates synergies that also benefit future projects.

How does the ‘Collaboration’ value influence how we select and work with our business partners?
That’s an interesting question. We look for partners who appreciate open interchange and flexibility. Whether in designing how software works, in defining processes, or in being always adaptable – we work together for the greater good.

How does the ‘Collaboration’ value describe the working environment and culture that applicants and new employees can expect to find at TECOSIM?
Applicants and new colleagues can be confident that their opinion will count. Ask questions. Every question is welcome. We want new employees to become part of our collaborative innovation swarm, and stretch themselves to help us move forward together.

Thank you for talking to us Dermott.
